You mus also have a special use permit on all State, WDFW and Federal lands. There are many people claiming to be guides in this state who are operating illegally. They operate without Liability insurance and without permits. Hiring an illegal outfitter/guide puts you and your hunt at risk. Please Help us stop the illegal outfitters. Guided Roosevelt Elk Hunts-Upfront Outfitters offers guided elk hunts on the West side of the Cascade Mountain range for Roosevelt and Cascade Roosevelt elk. The true Roosevelt elk species are typically larger bodied than the Rocky Mountain elk but have smaller horns. The Cascade roosevelt elk is a cross between a Rocky Mountain elk and a Roosevelt elk, creating a seperate category in the record book for Washington and Oregon. We hunt the west side of Interstate 5 in the coastal mountain range for true Roosevelt elk and we hunt east of the I-5 boundary for the Cascade Roosevelt..
The terrain in these areas consist of second growth timber, steep canyons, creek bottoms filled with thick underbrush, and many logged areas which make for great glassing. For clients who have a hard time hiking the canyons, there are miles of walk in only areas accessible by gated logging roads.
Hunting methods-Various hunting methods are practiced depending on the weapon of choice and time of the year. Archery elk and early Muzzleloader hunts will consist of calling, spot and stalk and ambushing bulls. Rifle hunts and late season archery hunts will be mainly spot and stalk, glassing, still hunting slowly through timber and ambushing. For clients who can only walking short distances we strategically place ground blinds in areas of high elk travel.
Physical Condition-When you book a guided hunt with Upfront outfitters it is best to prepare for a physically demanding hunt. I recommend that you be in the best possible shape that you can be at the time of your hunt. Although we scout several months in advance and will have many good areas to hunt, some of these spots may be a mile or two from the nearest road. Mature animals do not like people, especially elk, and are often found in areas difficult to get to or long distances from traffic noise. If medical issues keep you from walking long distances please let us know and we will scout areas that will increase your success. Although it is best to be in good physical condition we can cater to all hunters and customize your hunt to meet your physical abilities.
Guided Rocky Mountain Elk Hunts-Rocky Mountain elk habitat the east side of the Cascade Mountain range in Washington state. Washington is now producing some exceptional bulls in many east side draw units. There is no reason why a hunter should not go home with a bull elk 300 inches or bigger in most of Washington states Rocky mountain elk units. Due to the Washington state hunting regulations general hunts for Rocky Mountain elk are spike only in most areas. You must draw a tag through the public drawing to hunt branched bulls in most Washington state Rocky Mountain elk units. Because of this we hunt our general tags on the West side of the state for Roosevelt elk and only hunt the east side for hunters who have drawn an Any Bull Tag in a unit that we are legally permitted to guide. For more information on our special draw hunts please visit our DRAW HUNTS page. |

Washington State Western Blacktail deer hunts- We offer our guided and semi guided Blacktail deer hunts in two areas of the state of Washington. For the true Western Blacktail deer we offer guided blacktail deer hunts west of the Cascade Mountains in the dense rainforest of the Washington Coast. These areas are filled with heavy timber, lush vegetation, logged areas and heavy underbrush in which the elusive Blacktail buck calls home. The Counties that we offer our guided blacktail hunts have produced more record book trophy blacktail bucks than other areas of the state. Washington state has a great late season blacktail deer hunt which is usually during the rut
Methods of hunting- Methods of hunting will be combined with various techniques. Spot and stalk, glassing, and still hunting are the most common techniques for rifle and muzzleloader hunts while tree stands and ground blinds are the most successful ways to hunt. Archery hunters will have the best opportunites while sitting in a blind or tree stand over established trails that have been monitored by game cameras. During the rut we are successful rattling and calling bucks using grunts and doe bleats. This can be extremely successful while hunting from a tree stand or ground blind. We use any and all necessary methods for you to be successful.
Washington state Cascade Blacktail also known as benchleg bucks, which are a cross between Mule deer and Blacktail deer. We offer guided and semi guided hunts for Cascade Blacktail deer in South Central Washington along the Columbia river breaks and in the Klickitat region of the state. These Blacktail deer cannot be entered into the record book as a Western Blacktail but they can be entered into a seperate catagory for a Cascade Blacktail deer. The areas that we hunt these deer is more open country with less underbrush and more glassing opportunities. The weather on these hunts is usually more favorable than hunting the Western Blacktails in the rainforest. These hunts are during general season only. All late rut hunts are by permit only
Methods of hunting- Methods of hunting for the bench leg blacktails will be combined with various techniques. Spot and stalk, glassing, and still hunting are the most common techniques for rifle and muzzleloader hunts while tree stands and ground blinds are the most successful ways to hunt for archery hunters.
Washington State Mule Deer Hunting- Our Washington state guided and semi guided Mule deer hunts take place throughout several locations on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains. We are legally permitted to offer guided mule deer hunts in several areas stretching from the Oregon Border to the Canadian border. This allows Upfront Outfitters and our staff, of some of the best hand picked hunting guides in the state, to find the best Mule deer hunting areas possible. We pride ourselves in time spent in the field scouting for the best quality hunting areas that we can find. Because of our knowledge of big game we also know that things change year to year, week to week or sometimes even day to day. We must continously scout to provide our clients with the best opportunities possible for successful Mule deer hunting. We never know exactly where we will hunt until usually a week or two before the hunt begins. We do know that it Will be the best areas for success at the time. Unlike many Outfitters who hunt the same areas year after year, we have the flexibility to hunt the best areas year after year.

Prices for all hunts reflect time in the field and not actual hunting days. Prices reflect expenses such as fuel, food, time paid for scouting and misc. expenses such as land permits, liablility insurance and other expenses associated with operating a hunt. We scout very hard for your success.
Simply put, we spend more time in the field scouting and preparing for your guided hunt than any other outfitter/guide. Hunting is my full time occupation and my life long passion and obsession. I would like to invite you to hunt with Upfront Outfitters, a well known and reputable guide service and show you how to hunt successfully on public land.
